How Many Pounds in a Stone?

The BBC has some good before and after pictures of people who lost weight in Britian recently.

Here's Lisa. She lost six and a half stone in six months. How many pounds are in a stone, you ask? The British have a strange way of stating their weight. There are 14 pounds to a stone. So Lisa lost 90 pounds in six months. Congrats to Lisa and the other eight successful people pictured there.

See about converting kilograms to pounds here.

"That British have a strange way of stating their weight" same could be said of you Americans!

Just so you know, the use of English in the United States was inherited from British colonization.

That is great but 90lbs in six months seems a bit fast to me. A recommended healthy weight loss is 10 pounds per month.

actually, healthy weight loss is 1 to 2 pounds per week. so 4 to 8 pounds a month

People with a lot more excess weight can SAFELY drop larger amounts of weight in a week. Larger people have a higher resting metabolism than smaller, because they have more to heat, nourish and move. Not discounting their hard work at all, but it DOES make it easier than smaller people to lose the same amount of weight. As they get smaller, the weight loss will slow to a more gradual pace.

I weighed 290 (at 5'4") when I joined Slimming World. 4 weeks later, I have lost 21.5 pounds. Mind you, I'm eating ALL DAY LONG, and I'm eating a well-balanced diet of fruit, vegetables, lean meat and whole grains.I haven't been hungry at all. Don't be alarmed by rapid weight loss in large people. It doesn't mean they're starving themselves.

If you are desperate to lose weight, then make a commitment. Go to your friends and family for support, go to your fridge and throw away all unecessary foods such as deserts, cereals cola etc. Refill it with good sourced protein such as Salmon, and a lot a lot a lot of vegetables... healthy forma of carbs but dont over do that part... and start a routine of walking, biking, swimming etc and work your way up from there. I did it and lost 60 lbs. Dont starve your self... and dont over eat amd stick to it!

There's always one person commenting on other peoples weight loss or weight gain... mind your own freakin business if you can't say anything supportive!
